Orsato blows the whistle for the last time in Serie A: catwalk before Atalanta-Fiorentina for the referee
It will be a catwalk for Daniele Orsato, who ends his refereeing career today, he only has the European Championships left, after which he will hang up his whistle. Making a match report that doesn’t make much sense, just recovering it with the players thinking about the European Championship or holidays, we thought we’d remember the journey of one of the most important referees in the world, even if in Florence there is the classic phrase that reads: “With him you never win”.
At the national level he has directed so far over 269 matches in Serie A, taking him to 2nd place overall in the ranking of Italian referees of all time, behind only Concetto Lo Bello.
At European level it boasts over 40 matches in the Champions League (including a final in 2020) and more than 20 in the Europa League, for a total of over 100 matches in the UEFA context. In 2018 he participated in the football world championships in Russia as a VAR officer. He was named best referee in the world for the year 2020 by the IFFHS, the body that deals with statistics and records in the history of football with the most important global jurisdiction after FIFA.
He directed 3 matches at the “Euro 2020” European Championships (in 2021) and recently represented Italy at the “Qatar 2022” World Championships, directing Qatar-Ecuador (opening match), Argentina-Mexico, and the prestigious Argentina-Croatia semi-final .
