Today, Sunday 2 June marks the 78th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Italian Republic. The celebrations opened with the laying of the laurel wreath at the Shrine of the Fallen in Arezzo. In the Prato the reading of the message of the President of the Republic by the Prefect of Arezzo, then the greeting of the President of the Province of Arezzo and the Mayor of Arezzo. This was followed by the delivery of the honors of the Order “Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” granted in order to reward the merits acquired towards the Nation in the fields of letters, arts, economics and in the disengagement of public offices and activities carried out for social, philanthropic and humanitarian, as well as for long and notable services in civil and military careers. The honors were awarded to Aldo Pagani, entrepreneur from Castiglion Fiorentino, Aldo Lepore of the Fire Brigade, of Marciano della Chiana and Gian Paolo Gonnelli, of the Ministry of Defense, of Montevarchi.
