Tongs and bags to students

Three classes, around sixty children with bibs, tongs and bags and around 15 kilos of waste collected with great enthusiasm. This is the outcome of the civic and environmental education initiative which saw Retake collaborate with the Pascoli primary school and carry out a thorough cleaning like never before of the Commenda, in particular of the areas closest to the school, such as Parco Maddalena, via Tisi, via Montessori with its small park and Piazzale Cervi, the bus station, in front of the sanctuary of the Pellegrina Madonna.

The three third year classes participated in the project, born thanks to the availability of the Retake coordinator Massimo Siviero. The association’s volunteers first presented their activities in the classroom, then accompanied the children, together with the teachers, in collecting what the “uncivilized” abandon on the ground or, worse, in the grass of the parks. Children who, the teachers explain, “had enormous fun collecting various types of waste with tongs which they then placed in the bags like trophies.

At the end of the journey, which lasted about an hour, they were able to complete their ‘harvest’ by counting and weighing the filled bags. This particular lesson, set in the reality in which the school is located, allowed the students to understand that each of them has the power to make the world a better place, by carrying out small daily gestures”. The balance is around 5 kilos collected per class, with bags and bags filled with hundreds of butts, bottles, cans and waste.

“Even on this occasion – Siviero remarks – the children’s enthusiasm was captivating, after an hour they were still not fed up. Definitely an experience to repeat both in elementary and high school. Thanks to the teachers who believed in this initiative and to the volunteers who are always present in good numbers.”
