“Meridiana, once upon a time there were 500 trees planted by the Municipality of Arezzo and Estra”

Note from the city councilor Michele Menchetti (5 Star Movement).

“Where are the trees, Mayor? On 6 April 2022 there was great fanfare from the municipal administration for the contribution received from Estra for the planting of 500 plants in the Meridiana area for “urban reforestation”, a term with which perhaps the administration intended to describe the current situation of the land of the Sundial in question, namely the presence of tall grass and the disappearance of the 500 trees.

In our opinion it is useless to make big proclamations if you then let everything go down the drain. Interest in an initiative must be maintained over time otherwise it will only result in a useless waste of money. To understand what we mean, it is sufficient to go and see the current state of the trees that we have planted at our own expense and completely voluntarily over the years: the lime trees behind the stadium ticket office (2017), the maples in the new Ceciliano park (2018), the liriodendrons in the Meridiana area (2019), the lime trees in the Foro Boario park (2021).

It is correct to consider a loss of specimens but it can be a maximum of around 10%, certainly not almost all of them. In short, many beautiful words in the wind that this administration has unfortunately accustomed us to. For future reference.”
