Starting from October 27, 2023 all medical records are free in Trentino. The sentence is retroactive and therefore all citizens who have withdrawn and paid the medical records will have to be reimbursed.
The Trentino healthcare company will now have to communicate the reimbursement methods to the Province. It is impossible to escape this sentence. Confirmation will arrive in the next few days from the competent councilor Mario Tonina.
The opinion of the State Attorney’s Office was received yesterday and on director Ferro he communicated it to Claudio Ciathe one who had raised the problem through a queryto thecouncilor Tonina and to the doctor Monica Zambotti, Director of Health and Non-Self-Sufficiency Policies Service.

Basically anyone he collected the medical records from the day after the date of the sentence(27 October) will be able to request a refund.
The sentence that started the free medical records was dismissed by the European Court of Justice (EU:2023:811, C-307/22 of 26/10/2023), and establishes the right of patients to obtain the first copy of their medical records free of charge, including detailed information such as diagnoses, test results and medical opinions.
Despite this ruling, it appears that in Trentino hospitals a payment of 20 Euros per medical record is required. It all started about a year and a half ago thanks to the appeal of a citizen resident in Pergine who, after having informed Councilor Segnana and the government health minister (from whom he never received a response) reporting that the disabled and some protected categories did not have to pay for medical records, he turned to the European Court of Justice which however unexpectedly went beyond the request ruling that medical records should be free for everyone.
