A 43-year-old man from Andria, in the north of Bari, was attacked yesterday by his pit bull, suffering wounds judged to heal in 30 days. The unfortunate man was with the dog in his apartment in via Caracciolo, close to the city centre. It is not clear what triggered the reaction of the pit bull who attacked his owner, biting his arms and other parts of the body.

The escape
The 43-year-old, despite his injuries, managed to reach the balcony and ask for help. Together with the 118 personnel, firefighters, carabinieri and local police officers intervened on site. The man, lowered from the balcony with a stretcher and the help of a fire engine, was first taken under code red to the emergency room of the Bonomo hospital in Andria. Then he was transferred to the plastic surgery department of the Bari polyclinic. The dog, however, was sedated by the veterinarians of the ASL Bat (Barletta Andria Trani) and taken to a safe place.
