The finalists of the Friuli History Award 2024.

The hour of arms on the eastern border of Italy 1914-1918″ (Laterza Publishers) e Filippo Triola For “The clock of power. State and measurement of time in contemporary Italy (1749-1922)” (The Mill) the finalists of theXI edition of the Friuli History Awardpromoted on the initiative ofFriuli History Associationfor the scientific direction of the historian and academic of the University of Udine Thomas Piffer.
This year’s trio will be selected by Scientific jury of the Association, for the scientific direction of Tommaso Piffere composed of Elena Aga Rossi, Roberto Chiarini, Ernesto Galli della Loggia, Ilaria Pavan, Paolo Pezzino, Silvio Pons, Tommaso Piffer, Andrea Possieri And Andrea Zannini.
The finalist trio of Award for the best essay on contemporary history published in Italy was selected from 110 works nominated by the editors. The final phase of the Friuli History Award will now culminate with the choice of winner entrusted to the readers of Friuli Storia, the community of readers now spread throughout Italy but with its roots in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
There are 403 readers who will participate in this year’s jury. Of these, 256 are men and 147 women, 236 residents in Friuli Venezia Giulia and 167 in the rest of Italy. As always, the participation of young people is important (11% are under 30) and of world of school (18% of students and teachers).

“With over 400 “popular judges” – explains the president of Friuli Storito Ernesto Galli della Loggia – the Friuli-History Award is the Italian cultural award with the largest jury of readers. It is also the most important Italian prize for a history essay. Both figures testify to a success that has continued to grow over the years. The public discovers history’s ability to help us understand what is happening in the world, its causes, its possible developments. This is how the cultural level of the country grows. It seems highly significant to us that all this found its beginning and continues to find its nourishment precisely in a region like Friuli-Venezia Giulia, which has always proved to be crucial for the fate of Italy”. The proclamation and presentation of the 2024 Friuli History Prize are scheduled for next autumn, in Udine.
The 11th edition of the Friuli History Award 2023 is promoted by the Friuli History Association with the contribution of Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia GiuliaOf Friuli Foundation, Banca di Udine Credito Cooperativo SC And Municipality of Udine.
