ANCONA – There are 12 Italian regions with high water stress: Basilicata, Calabria, Sicily, Puglia Campania, Lazio, Marche, Umbria, Tuscany, Molise, Sardinia and Abruzzo. Experts – reports the Water Value Community for Italy of The European House Ambrosetti – estimate that by 2030 water stress will further intensify in some Italian regions, with an increase of 8.7% in Liguria, 6.1 % in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and 5.7% in the Marche. With the 2023 survey, the Marche region has a water stress rate (ratio between total water withdrawals and availability of surface and underground water) equal to 4.4%, on a scale of up to 5. A drought situation which impacts the agriculture and hydroelectricity, caused by global warming which reduced rainfall. “The water situation in Italy – explains Valerio De Molli, Managing Partner and CEO of The European House – Ambrosetti – requires immediate and concerted action. A concrete commitment is needed from all the actors involved, from the institutions to the citizens to promote sustainable water management practices and investing in innovative technologies that allow us to face this emergency”. Therefore, a modernization that leads to greater efficiency of water infrastructure, “to optimize the collection and storage of water”. Only with an “integrated and far-sighted approach, which must also be carried forward by citizens, will we be able to guarantee the water security of our country and the prosperity of future generations”.
