This year the “Ranni festival” in Ragusa dedicated to San Giorgio exceeded all expectations, featuring unprecedented special effects, wonders and phantasmagoric suggestions. Spectacular video mapping animated the baroque palaces and the cathedral façade, culminating in a magnificent pyromusical show. New this year was the addition of the final fireworks at the Iblean Garden, which concluded the celebration after midnight. Saint George called and the devout people responded with enthusiasm, demonstrating the indissoluble bond of the city of Ragusa with its glorious patron.
Many people attended Ibla for San Giorgio
Attendance exceeded expectations with over 60,000 participants, filling the ancient city of Ragusa in a flood of people. The bishop of the diocese of Ragusa, Msgr. Giuseppe La Placa presided over the solemn afternoon mass in the presence of the cathedral’s parish priest, Don Pietro Floridia, and other civil and military authorities. Monsignor La Placa underlined the relevance of the figure of Saint George and urged the faithful to fight for a better world, relying on the saint’s intercession.
The procession, characterized by evocative scenographic moments, was accompanied by the cry of the bearers “Truonu viva” and the traditional shower of rose petals thrown from the balconies. Among the most exciting moments, the stop at the church of the Holy Souls of Purgatory in Piazza Repubblica, with the recitation of Vespers. The procession ended after midnight with a fireworks display in the Iblean Garden.
