Riva’s defense thunders in the courtroom

TARANTO – “The trial must be cancelled: the right of defense has been mutilated.” Thus thunders in the courtroom the lawyer Luca Perrone, defender of Fabio Riva and in the third appeal hearing Sold Out Environmenton the poisonous emissions of the former Ilva, took the floor again together with his colleague Pasquale Annicchiarico to ask for the nullity of the first degree sentence and the relegation of the criminal matter to the preliminary hearing.

The reason, according to the two lawyers, is to be found in the decision of judge Anna De Simone who held the second preliminary hearing which denied the defenders the possibility at that stage to again submit a request for abbreviated rites, spontaneous statements and interrogations of the accused.

The story is particularly technical, as well as dated. In fact, it dates back to 2016, when the prosecutor’s office before the first degree assize court then presided over by judge Michele Petrangelo raised the nullity of the trial, highlighting two reasons.
