The Spanish weekend ended with the victory of three-time world champion Verstappen, but in the meantime new background information on the weekend in Barcelona has emerged.
Formula 1 is becoming an issue in which Ferrari matters less and less: this fact became clear at the end of the Barcelona Grand Prix, where the ‘usual’ Max Verstappen triumphed, author of a sublime performance against his friend Lando Norris, who overtook everyone on Saturday’s qualifying session to take first place.
However, the inexhaustible talent of the Dutch champion once again decided the direction of the race and now an increasingly downhill path awaits the Red Bull driver. After Barcelona the certainties increased, since the challenge was anything but simple, even for someone like him who was used to doing everything on the track. In the meantime though further background behind this Grand Prix emerges which penalized both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
Verstappen ‘ruins’ Norris’s pole: The backstory on Leclerc
Going back in time for a moment, to qualifying Saturday, one episode in particular has aroused a lot of interest among fans of the top automotive competition. And it concerns in particular the two great friends and rivals Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, who had concluded the pole position Saturday in first and second place respectively.
It was the three-time world champion who ‘ruined’ the weekend of the British class of ’99: Max in fact, at the end of the pole and just before taking part in the usual interviews, told Lando that the F1 commissioners were against Charles Leclerc they had not taken measures for some of his behaviorsdeemed incorrect by the Englishman, during free practice on Friday.
Verstappen announced in advance that no measures had been taken against the Monegasque, only a light reprimand. “It’s pretty crazy that he only got one reprimand“, Max said, with Norris instead implying that he expected something more (“He fucked my inner wing“, replied the McLaren driver in turn).
What happened during free practice? In practice, Leclerc’s SF24 had attempted to set the last fastest lap, but due to force majeure he had to engage in a duel with Norris’ McLaren. The two cars collided slightly, forcing the F1 Commissioners to open an investigation file (a file which, as we have seen, ended in nothing).
