MACERATA «My goal has always been to be the police commissioner of the people. I hope I succeeded, I had a direct relationship with people.” Luigi Silipo, after only a year, leaves Macerata. In his place, in the next few days, Gianpaolo Patruno, originally from Bari and coming from the Technical, Logistics and Assets Service of Florence, will arrive.

The meeting

Yesterday morning Silipo met with journalists and took stock of his experience. «I’m sorry to leave because I am very attached to the Marche, but the police are our life and it is our duty to serve them throughout Italy – he said -. I will go to lead the Viterbo police station, a new challenge that I will face with curiosity and great motivation.” Then thanks to the colleagues with whom he has worked in the last year (“wonderful people with great professional skills”), to the prefects Flavio Ferdani and Isabella Fusiello (“from her, a former police commissioner, I received many precious advice”) and to the top management of the other law enforcement agencies, primarily to colonels Nicola Candido and Ferdinando Falco, provincial commanders of the Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza respectively. Finally, the excellent relationships with the local police and municipal administrations were highlighted. Returning to the concept of “people’s police commissioner”, Silipo recalled the meetings with the representatives of the residents of Corso Cairoli and the commitment to solving the security problems in the area. The same commitment made to prevention, with special lessons in schools against drugs and bullying.

«When I was leading the Rome Flying Squad – he said – I dealt with the murders of Desirèe Mariottini and Sara Di Pietrantonio, two tragedies that touched me deeply. I then had the opportunity to meet Alessandra Verni, Pamela Mastropietro’s mother. Her daughter will always be part of Macerata and will live in our hearts.” Then she added: «In the fight against highs our commitment has been constant and this is demonstrated by the huge seizure of 58 kilos of drugs made in Porto Recanati».

On the public order front, numerous services were carried out by the police. «I am a great football fan and I would not like to be remembered only for the Daspo to the fans – underlined Silipo -. I’ll tell you an episode: after the match between Maceratese and Jesina, I stopped to talk to the red and white ultras under their corner: it was a frank and direct conversation, I was pleased. In the ultras world there are many facets, I appreciate the passion and attachment with which they follow their team.” Then a confession: «I am happy for the promotion of Civitanovese to Serie D but I cannot hide that this year I have become a Rata fan». The most critical situation to face? «There were clashes after the match between Maceratese and Osimana, but our response was punctual and effective».

The expectations

There is another aspect that Silipo is keen to underline: «In Macerata the level of security is high and the citizens, from this point of view, are demanding. Rightly so, I add. At the end of last year several thefts occurred in the centre, with great effort we managed to arrest the perpetrators. There has always been a great collaboration with the citizens, a fundamental relationship.” Especially for a “people’s police commissioner”.
