Genoa, Gilardino: “This year we were a surprise, we did unthinkable things, next year we will be a reality”

Alberto GilardinoGenoa coach, takes stock of the season which ended with the victory over Thiago Motta’s Bologna, who began his coaching career on the rossoblù bench years ago: “I am happy and enthusiastic for the team, for how we have grown from week to week and how awareness has increased month after month within the group.”

“We have always given everything – he says – demonstrating that we have a strong DNA: there were players who started for the first time and others who returned from injuries, but everyone did well. We wanted to finish on a high note, the boys did they deserved an evening like this in front of a beautiful audience. This year we did something unthinkable and extraordinary for this reality. If I think back to how the training camp began, I can say that we did a lot in January well on the market, bringing players with personality.

PERSPECTIVES – “I am happy with the career I have had as a footballer, I hope to have an excellent one as a coach too: the start was good, I aim to improve the human material I have at my disposal. On the pitch I transform myself. During the week we work hard, every training session takes place at high intensity: it is important to keep the team’s self-esteem high, all the players are decisive and we have demonstrated this this season”.

GOALS – “This year we were a surprise. We faced the season with great enthusiasm, but next season we will be a reality: we will start from scratch but with an excellent base of players, it will be a complicated championship. It will depend a lot on the transfers and what the club will decide what to do: whether it is a striker, a fifth, a midfielder or a defender, we will have the obligation to be ready. The club asks for the development of young people.”

MARKET – “The company will have to make choices on transfers, I hope there will be new arrivals of equal value to those who will leave. My staff and I have always shown that we work with everyone in the best possible way, this has been the true strength of the group We will roll up our sleeves from July 8th and start again with great ambition and desire to have a championship like this.”
