Ragusa Foto Festival announces the call dedicated to photography students

The contest that valorizes photography students gets underway with a cash prize for the best project, an exhibition for the top 4 classified in the context of the Ragusa Foto Festival, the publication in the catalog of the 12 finalists and a further exhibition thanks to the Clou Prize. You have until July 15th to submit student projects.

Ragusa, 22 May 2024 – Among the initiatives of the Ragusa Foto Festival 2024, the first Sicilian international event held in the Sicilian village of Ibla, a UNESCO heritage site, the fourth edition of ‘Young Photographers from Italian AcademiesYPIACALL#4, an initiative sponsored by SISF, the Italian Society for the Study of Photography.

After the success of past editions – the one in 2023 saw twenty-two institutions presenting over 70 projects by their students – the initiative continues conceived and produced by Ragusa Foto Festival and the Academy of Fine Arts of Cataniawhich is aimed directly at Academies of Fine Arts, ISIA, Italian Universities and public and private tertiary level institutions with the aim of promoting and enhancing innovative projects and the best visual research of the young authors trained within these courses.

By Monday 15 July the institutes that intend to nominate their photography students will have to select and send the projects that evoke, by imagining narratives, forms and interpretations, the theme of the twelfth edition of the Festival, “Taking a break”, directed by Stefania Paxhia and curated by Massimo Siragusa. Finalists and winners will be announced during the opening days – from Friday 30 August to Sunday 1 September – of the Ragusa Foto Festival.

The prices

To the first 4 classified projects will be dedicated an exhibition from 28 September to 27 October 2024 in the baroque rooms of Palazzo La Rocca in Ragusa Ibla, produced by the Ragusa Foto Festival. A cash prize worth €500, supported by the Free Municipal Consortium of Ragusa, to the best project among the 4 winners on display. While the Highlight Prize will allow to one of the 12 finalists to exhibit the project in a solo exhibition in the spaces of the Clou gallery in Ragusa. All the 12 finalist projects they will be included in the catalogue ‘Young Photographers from Italian Academies’#4, produced by the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania.

The jury called to decree the artistic quality and expressive research of the projects presented is composed of Gianluigi Colinartist, art critic, cover editor of ‘La Lettura’ and President of the Jury; Benedetta Donatocurator and director of the RCA – Romano Cagnoni Award, member of the scientific committee and president of the jury of the Best Portfolio Award of the Ragusa Foto Festival; Lucia Miodiniteacher, art and photography historian representing the SISF e Armando Romeo Tomagra, photographer and teacher of ABA Catania, Federica Battaglia of the Clou Gallery in Ragusa e Rosario Antociartist, ABA Catania teacher, and curator of the YPIACall#4 contest.
