So, is Carlo Conti returning to Sanremo good or bad news?

After the Amadeus revolution, Carlo Conti, already presenter and artistic director from 2015 to 2017, returns to Sanremo. It has already been said in every way, but it is worth underlining it once again: the management of Amadeus, in addition to excellent results from from an audience point of view, it has put the Festival back at the center of the music industry in a way that was unthinkable to imagine even just a few years ago.

The songs from Sanremo are in fact the most listened to in Italy, they are broadcast on the radio, those who go there increase their popularity, and the event has become a faithful cross-section of the tastes of the new generations. Science fiction thinking about the many years in which the event was followed only for the memes, for the trash, for the old glories thawed annually. Now it is the most important event of the year for the sector, something that takes us back to the years when there was only one television channel.

Despite his past as a deejay, however, Carlo Conti’s first management is not remembered for particularly memorable musical episodes: starting from the podium of its first edition (Il Volo, Nek and Malika Ayane) they were years of consolidation of what the majors they supported at that time, still linked to a rather conservative vision and the more traditional Italian song.

Of course, it should also be underlined that the revolutions of urban, indie and phenomena with a more international flavor had not yet erupted at a mainstream level. So what will happen in the next few years? Because Conti signed on to be the artistic director and host of two editions.

A great professional, he knows how to follow the flow and adapt to it, and perhaps it would not be very convenient for him to try to impose a different vision, inserting a reverse gear towards a more traditional song that is not in tune with the tastes of the younger ones. In short, perhaps, “if you want everything to remain as it is, everything must change”, like a new Tancredi of Leopard.
