Helicopter nucleus, the new H125s landed in Trento

The helicopter unit of the permanent fire brigade of Trento will soon be able to count on the youngest fleet in all of Italy. Two new Airbus H125 vehicles (AS350B3e) landed today around midday in Trento, after a flight of approximately three hours departing from Marseille with the accountable manager Daniele Gosetti. Here they were “welcomed” by the general manager of the Civil Protection, Forestry and Wildlife Department Stefano Fait, by the commander of the Permanent Corps Ilenia Lazzeri. The helicopters will be operational starting from the second half of June, when the preparation of the technical equipment necessary for civil protection operations on the provincial and national territory will be completed. A red and white color was chosen for these vehicles, which recalls that of the equipment of the firefighters, which differentiates them from the yellow and red medical helicopters. The president of the Autonomous Province of Trento highlights how Trentino is rightly proud of this reality of excellence in the civil protection system. A strategic reality, as has also been demonstrated during major emergencies and maintenance interventions in the area, as well as in the context of the maxi exercise on Alpe Cermis last weekend.

The newly arrived Airbus Helicopters H125 will replace the Ecureuil 350B3 currently in use; the first, rented, will be decommissioned at the end of May, while the second owned, which has reached 20 years of activity, will be decommissioned at the end of June. The fleet is completed by a Leonardo AW139 and two Airbus Helicopters BK117D3 for helicopter rescue activities.
The new vehicles are characterized by a more powerful engine, as well as countless technical improvements including a double hydraulic system and allow optimization of the activities of transporting loads to the hook with an increase in the transportable weight. They will be used for firefighting operations, transport of material and surveillance of the territory, transport of personnel teams and various other civil protection activities.
As in the case of the H145 for medical rescues registered in 2023, two acronyms were chosen which represent as many peaks in Trentino: I-CRLT (Carè Alto) and I-MRML (Marmolada). The sides of the H125s are also characterized by the white profiles of the mountains.
Produced by Airbus Helicopters, the helicopters dedicated to civil protection and aerial work activities will now have their fittings completed through – among other things – the assembly of tetra and FM radios and the replacement of the pilot’s door, which will be more rounded and transparent for facilitate the work of those at the joystick during transport operations, allowing a large viewing area downwards.
Today, 16 pilots, 13 maintenance and flight technicians, 6 flight assistants, 4 technical office operators and 6 support service operators, as well as health workers and mountain and speleological rescue personnel operate at the Helicopter Unit.
