UDINE. On the afternoon of Monday 20 May the agents of the emergency response and traffic department of the local police command of Udineengaged in a series of checks in Piazza I° Maggio, noticed the driver of a Peugeot 208 car with an Italian license plate, whose behavior aroused the suspicion of the officers, as he remained particularly close to the vehicle in front of him.

Stopped, the man driving showed an identity card and a driving license both issued by the State of Poland which, however, immediately appeared to the attentive eye of the officers as not authentic. Accompanied to the command offices in via Girardini, a further check using the equipment provided confirmed the forgery of both documents; furthermore, following a search of the vehicle, it emerged that the man was hiding an authentic passport and driving license issued by the State of Georgia in the passenger compartment. In this way it was confirmed that the man, 32 years old domiciled in Calabria, was in reality an irregular Georgian citizen on Italian territory and already burdened by an expulsion decree.

It therefore became clear that the man’s intent was to pass himself off as a citizen of the European Community, through the production of documents issued by the Polish State, in order to be able to move freely within European territory and evade checks regarding the regularity of its presence on the national territory.

The man was arrested and placed under house arrestas ordered by the judicial authority.

On the morning of Tuesday 21 May the hearing took place in front of the Udine court where the judge validated the arrest and the authorization for the expulsion of the foreign citizen from the national territory was issued, the procedure for which was subsequently completed by accompanying the man to the Immigration office of the Udine police headquarters.
