«Calabria must become the pivot of a new Mediterranean policy»

LAMEZIA TERME «The structural gaps accumulated by the South must be filled with the allocation of resources and with programming that takes into account the actual effects in terms of development and employment and, above all, the specificity of the territories. Calabria must insist that Europe has a policy for the Mediterranean with Southern Italy as a logistics platform which – thanks to infrastructures such as the Bridge over the Strait, the Port of Gioia Tauro, the high-speed railway and the modernization of the 106 – be an active protagonist in global value chains.” This was said by Filippo Mancuso, candidate for the European Parliament on the League list in the southern constituency, during the public meeting in the packed “Prunia” conference center in Lamezia Terme.

For Mancuso «on the infrastructure front, many strategic works are in the pipeline, thanks to investments never seen before allocated by the centre-right government and in particular by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, led by Matteo Salvini. The Lamezia Terme airport, thanks to the resources of CIS Calabria, will be profoundly redeveloped and the new boarding area will be inaugurated in the next few weeks. The procedures for the electrification of the Catanzaro Lido – Lamezia Terme Centrale and Sibari – Catanzaro Lido crossroads are well advanced. By the summer there will be the first tender for the new state road 106 Catanzaro-Crotone, financed with over 3 billion euros.” «The Europe we want – added Mancuso – is not that of directives issued from above which, without taking into account the peculiarities of the adhering States, are opposed to the real needs of the people, but a Europe that is able to reconcile the interests and general principles with the legitimate interests of those who, after years of sacrifices and investments, have the right to be able to continue their business in maximum serenity. Personally – concluded Filippo Mancuso – I am on the side of the beach operators who rightly fear the risk of the implosion of a strategic sector. Protect existing businesses, when it is proven that the beach resource is not scarce and there are spaces for new businesses, it is not a questionable option.”
The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of Labor and Welfare Claudio Durigonthe deputy group leader of the League in the Chamber of Deputies Domenico Furgiuele, the regional councilors Pietro Raso and Katia Gentile, the president of the Province of Catanzaro Amedeo Mormile, the provincial councilor Francesco Argento and the municipal councilors Antonietta D’Amico and Antonio Mastroianni.
