The action to combat uncivilized people who leave waste on streets, squares and public places continues in Marsala. The municipal police continue to seize landfills and subject vehicles to administrative detention, where the vehicles are used to transport and then abandon waste in the area. On this front, environmental video surveillance cameras are very useful in recording those who commit environmental crimes – as they are under current legislation – thanks to the detection of the car’s identification plate, from which the driver can be traced.
It would seem more difficult to identify people who – on foot, on bicycles and some with their faces covered – abandon rubbish on the street. Furthermore, we are witnessing a truly unfortunate event recorded by the video surveillance system: “using” children to deposit waste bags, transforming squares and streets into real landfills. Mayor Massimo Grillo: “We will identify the families who force minors into these bad behaviors which – not spontaneous in children and the result of bad education – have the sole purpose of ensuring impunity for adults”. Well, since these are often people living in the area, the latter will be subjected to legal checks to verify whether the residents are in possession of the tubs, as well as up to date with the payment of the waste tax.
Furthermore, in addition to checks, the municipal administration is launching a series of prevention programs based on civic education, aimed at raising awareness among students and families of the importance of respecting the environment. Such as the “M’a firu” project – created in partnership with ITET Garibaldi, FabLab Western Sicily and the CIF of Livorno, aimed at networking initiatives that support young people in finding/rediscovering their path in study, work , in being active citizens.
