A morning of Astronomy in Legnano: with Antar discovering the Sun and the Moon

A special astronomy lesson to observe the Sun and the moon in broad daylight. That’s right, the most important star in the solar system was studied this morning, Saturday 1 June, with the experts from Antares Legnano.

At 9am today, the amateur astronomers of the Antares association, in collaboration with Cittadinanza Attiva ODV, set up three observation stations inside the ILA park. Two telescopes, equipped with appropriate filters, were pointed at the Sun, while the third telescope was aimed at the Moon, still clearly visible despite the daylight. Amateur astronomers Alberto Sommi, Vittorio Marinoni, Franco Rama and Marco Moggi led a large and young audience through the wonders of the universe. Live, those present were able to admire the spectacular images of the Sun and our natural satellite.

«In fact it is known that the practice of this beautiful science takes place during the night with the starry sky available but in broad daylight and only in broad daylight can we observe the most important star for us: the Sun – explained the amateur astronomers -. During this period, the Sun is very active and offers the possibility of easily observing sunspots and spectacular eruptions. Participants were able to see these solar features with astonishing clarity thanks to the telescopes’ special filters. Additionally, the image of the Moon caught the attention of many, particularly highlighting the bright Aristarcus crater. This morning allowed us to ignite the curiosity and enthusiasm of many young and old towards the wonders of the universe.”
