The Picco grandstand dedicated to the ’44 champions: “It’s the history of Spezia”

The new grandstand of the Alberto Picco stadium will be dedicated to the heroes of the 1944 scudetto. In the year of the eightieth anniversary of the historic result of the La Spezia Fire Brigade, the club has decided to name the grandstand in memory of that glorious team, capable of defeating even Grande Torino. “We are in the year of the eightieth anniversary of the ’44 scudetto. I have worked in six cities, when I change teams I always study history to be prepared. One of the first days I told Gianluca Parenti that at Spezia there wasn’t a story, but history. It is impossible not to celebrate this type of anniversary well. We have a series of initiatives, the first agreed with all internal elements”, explains the CEO from La Spezia Andrea Gazzoli. “We printed 1944 copies of that team, the historic figurine of Coriolano Perioli who made a fantastic gesture towards these boys. We will go to the Arena where this historic event took place, to pay homage where the victory was celebrated. The province is organizing various things, we thank the institutions. We felt like naming the grandstand after the 1944 champions, we thank mayor Peracchini who shared the idea. On July 16th we will proceed with the naming of the gallery after the boys who wrote this story. We are also talking to Gianfelice Facchetti to involve him. We have recovered the memorial stones of Alberto Picco, they will be renovated and we will try to enhance the memories inside the stadium”, explains Gazzoli.

An initiative that kicks off what will be the new life of the Picco stadium stand, which will have to convey the values of La Spezia also through a path that will remember the history of the club: “This stand must be experienced from every point of view. We want to show everyone what Spezia is to convey values. We may not have won the Champions Cups but there are many things to show about our history. The Province is also involved. We are interested in the involvement of young people, of children, and the museum aspect helps us understand what Spezia is today. And the history of ’44 must be taught”, continues the CEO of Spezia.

“We will try to give the right importance to the ’44 champions also visually. Inside the stadium we will give him the right recognition”, he explains Emanuele Martera of TUB Design, who will also take care of this project. “We talked about the museum because there is the idea of dedicating a part of the stadium to the history of our club. It will take time, but we will start immediately with the project, the search for contents, and it will be a visitable place. We are full of memories and anecdotes. One of the most beautiful days in the history of Spezia in my opinion is May 1st 2006, there are many epic elements in this story. We will arrange the hospitality, there will be communications in the white walls of the grandstand. There will be an area dedicated to the history of Spezia. We must remain attached to roots and traditions, there will be a museum part in the stadium, and then we will give space to current events”, concludes Martera.
