The Quarto branch of ‘Risiko!’ was inaugurated in February. Club Sardegna’, at the headquarters recently opened by the Department of Social Services and Intergenerational Policies in Piazza IV Novembre, and after two months and with the involvement of 25 players, the first Risiko! championship has already concluded, which Janko Madronic’s success has been decreed. To win his first victory he had to defeat Antonio Palmas, Vincenzo Di Dino and Danilo Zucca in the final.
Janko Madronicentrepreneur, after the victory explained that “have been playing Risk for about ten years. I consider it an excellent metaphor for life, because it allows you to get to know people better and their way of dealing with it. I invite everyone to play because, once you understand the dynamics, it helps you understand yourself and your nature”.
In second place Antonio Palmas: “I’ve always loved Risk, I played it a lot as a boy. I didn’t know about tournament risk, which I discovered last year in a truly delicate moment in my life. I find tournament Risk much more interesting and practicable than the classic one, because the game is timed, everything is over in 90 minutes, and this forces players to study strategies to obtain the best position in a short time”. Antonio is a Coach Counselor Trainer, with very clear ideas about RisiKo! and continues: “It is a game that trains the ability to have an overall vision of problems, which forces players to reflect on the consequences of their actions and teaches them to know how to win and how to lose: it is impossible for those with a wrong strategy to win, but it is possible that whoever has the right strategy loses. The luck of the dice matters a lot, but it can only be exploited by those who have the right strategy. I recommend everyone to try it by signing up for the next tournament: you will strengthen your strategic skills and have a lot of fun”.
The next tournament, 10th RisiKo Championship! Club Sardiniathe only club in Italy to be hosted in a public structure at the Territorial Educational Service Center in Piazza IV Novembre 36 a, will in fact begin Wednesday 22 May with registrations at 9pm and races start at 9.30 pm. It will last for ten rounds, with three discards of the worst matches. At the end, the first in the ranking will directly advance to the final while those classified between the second and thirteenth positions will compete in the semi-final to compete for the remaining three places in the final. Antonio Palmas, member of the RisiKo! Club “Sardegna” talks about the last race: “Yesterday’s final was very close. Personally, I played defensively and I think it was the best strategy for me: I was lucky enough to have an objective compatible with the territories I had on the board, so I started ahead of the others. In those conditions I forced others to take risks to surpass me; Janko did it, the dice rewarded his efforts and I came second: congratulations to the winner”.
Vincenzo Di Dinofresh from an Open tournament and a Risk Master played in Turin with the best players from all over Italy, talks about his experience: “It was a good tournament. I had access to the direct final one round early and waited for the semi-finals to select my three competitors. Unfortunately, I started with an uphill goal and despite an important recovery I was unable to do better than third place”. Vincenzo, who is the president of RisiKo! Club Sardegna invites everyone to approach the “RisiKo School!” on Wednesdays at 9pm, before the races: “The best players will explain rules, techniques and strategies to stay at the table and face the game with fun”. “ThePresident”, as he is known in the national circles of RisiKo!, is involved in various fields, from culture to information, from politics to the third sector “but at RisiKo! I’ve been playing for over forty years and I still haven’t gotten tired of it, in fact, after founding a gaming association in 2002, I accepted this new challenge of RisiKo! Club Sardinia, which will culminate sooner or later in bringing the National Team Championship to the Island”.
“It will be wonderful to host, with the help of the institutions (Region, Metropolitan City and Municipality), enthusiasts of this game from all over Italy – continues Vincenzo -; I dream, in fact, of a tournament that combines competition with tourism and culture, a business card that allows the best players of the thirty clubs and their families a holiday in Sardinia to get to know places, cuisine and breathtaking views.”. Danilo Zucca, also on the RisiKo board! Club Sardegna, fourth place, says that “I have been playing this strategy game, not war, since the age of six. I try to gain more and more experience by playing and it’s a passion that has lasted for 40 years! I recommend it to all people. Try one game, then another, and another. I did it like this, I haven’t stopped and I continue to have fun!”.
