Trooping the colour, the military parade for the king’s birthday, has begun, which today will mark the return of Kate Middleton after 5 months of absence from public life. Trooping the Color is one of the largest military ceremonial events of the year involving more than 1,200 soldiers and musicians as well as more than 200 horses.
What time does it start and the route
The ceremony will last until approximately 1pm.
The route is as follows: The Princess of Wales will travel with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis in a state carriage along the Mall and watch the parade from the Major General’s office with the rest of the royal family. The King will walk down The Mall from Buckingham Palace with an escort from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. When the Horse Guards clock strikes 11, the King will arrive to receive the royal salute from the officers and men of the Household Division. After the salute, the King will walk up and down the ranks, inspecting the troops. The bands will then perform a musical “troop” and the regimental color will be escorted up and down the ranks of the guards. The Foot Guards and Household Cavalry then march ahead of Her Majesty, the King’s Troop and the Royal Horse Artillery with their weapons. The king will return to Buckingham Palace in front of his guards before saluting at the palace railings as the troops march to their barracks. The ceremony will end at 12.25pm. The King joins other members of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the Royal Air Force flyby at around 1pm.
