After the haul of Blue Flags, as many as fifteen, which allowed Abruzzo to equal Sardinia, a comforting picture also emerges regarding the bathing quality of the coastal waters, although limited critical issues persist. The results of the analyzes carried out by the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (Arta) to safeguard the health of swimmers in the waters of the middle Adriatic, highlighted microbiological parameters that were almost all compliant with the legal limits.
As regards the most recent checks, there are only two stretches of sea for which a temporary ban has been triggered: the first in San Vito Chietino, 50 meters south of the Cinzioni ditch where, however, the supplementary analyzes carried out on Tuesday by the technicians of the Environmental Agency they gave a positive result, causing the alarm to go away.
The second critical issue was found, however, in Pineto, at kilometer 424.100 of State Road 16: in this case, the result of the supplementary elections which could lead to the revocation of the ban is expected today.
THE MEASURE
Then there are the more “dated” critical issues which are the subject of a provision from the Region: in the three sections for which a temporary ban was established by council resolution, the analyzes found concentrations below the limit threshold for the ban bathing: these are the points located in the municipality of Pescara, the area in front of via Leopardi; in Rocca San Giovanni, area in front of km484.625 of state road 16 and in Vasto, Cordella seafront, monument to the bather area. For these sections, after two positive results in two consecutive samplings, the mayors of the territorially competent Municipalities can submit a request to the Maritime Works and Marine Waters Service of the Region, to obtain the revocation of the temporary bans.
However, the points located in Ortona, 350 meters south of the mouth of the Foro river and 200 meters south of the mouth of the Aielli river, remain prohibited for the whole of 2024; and in San Vito Chietino, 100 meters north of the mouth of the Feltrino river.
THE REACTIONS

Analytical accuracy and precision in sampling – Dionisio continues – represent essential characteristics in carrying out analysis activities, fundamental not only for the protection of citizens, but also for the purposes of assigning the blue flags which are so important for supporting the tourist growth of this region.”
THE OFFER
Just the other day the “Blue Flag” verdicts arrived, the recognition is assigned to seaside and lakeside locations on the basis of the cleanliness of the water, waste management, green areas and cycle paths, services on the beaches and in municipality, hotel facilities and more. There are 15 Blue Flags assigned to Abruzzo this year, one more than last year, given that Ortona, in the province of Chieti, on the Costa dei Trabocchi, joins the group. And in the national rankings Abruzzo catches up with Sardinia and places ahead of Sicily. The locations of Pescara, Francavilla, Fossacesia, Vasto, San Salvo, Pineto, Giulianova, Roseto, Silvi, Alba Adriatica, Martinsicuro and Roseto have therefore been confirmed. Ortona was added to these. Among the lakes, Scanno and Villalago.
