At least there are two other carabinieri under investigation in the investigation into favors by the Carabinieri commander of the Prato Sergio Turini company to Italian and Chinese entrepreneurs. They are two colleagues of the Army officer who ended up in trouble for having agreed to the requests of Lieutenant Colonel Turini, a man who, according to the investigating judge, betrays “a business vocation”, as demonstrated by the purchase of three bottles of wine intended for “customers important”, “as if the station commander had to ingratiate customers, like any entrepreneur, with Christmas gifts”.
The first of the two suspects is the captain driving the radiomobile of the Prato Company and ended up under investigation for failure to report the incident of the Chinese man caught swinging an ax in the street last January and not reported to the judicial authorities. That man, who was not identified by the soldiers who intervened, was the father of a Chinese man who owns a laundry, a friend of a police officer on duty in Prato.
And the Colonel Turini to move as soon as he is informed by the captain of what has happened. And it is he who asks not to proceed against him and not to seize the weapon: «There is no report, it is reduced, it is not a crime and the matter is closed. If he went to the garden, good old man, let’s give him a hand. If he was in Piazza Duomo, ok, we’ll talk about it again.”
Also the captain was searched by the ROS carabinieri as part of the investigation conducted by the deputy prosecutor of Florence Luca Tescaroli and the prosecutors Lorenzo Gestri, Lorenzo Boscagli and Massimo Petrocchi and was summoned yesterday to the prosecutor’s office but made use of the right not to respond. The other carabiniere under investigation also chose the path of silence, a police officer on duty in Poggibonsi, where Turini served from 2016 to 2021. The crime that the Prosecutor accuses him of is different: embezzlement for having accompanied the son of Turini from one place to another.
Meanwhile, yesterday morning he was also summoned to the Prosecutor’s Office the undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli, as a person informed of the facts. The investigations revealed that at the request of the entrepreneur Riccardo Matteini Bresci, CEO of the «Colle Group» now under house arrest, he had written a letter to the General Command of the Army and the Ministry of Defense so that Turini was not transferred. The request was unsuccessful and the colonel was moved anyway.
For three hours Silli answered the prosecutors’ questions and very calmly explained: «I know Matteini Bresci as an enlightened entrepreneur who has always been interested in the territory. And as I do with many other representatives of trade associations I became interested in a question he had put to me: on the other hand, dozens of cases are presented to me every day. I, in absolute good faith, acted in a transparent manner.”
Meanwhile Roberto Moretti’s position is becoming more complicated, the owner of the Turin detective agency ended up under house arrest because, according to the prosecution, he was “in business” with Turini who provided him with clients. When the ROS carabinieri notified him of the measure, they found two unreported revolvers displayed on a table in the living room of his home and a new arrest was made.
«These are two old and inactive weapons that Moretti received, years ago, as an inheritance from a friend. He should have reported the transfer to the police station but he didn’t do it because he considered them toys, precisely because they didn’t work – explains the defender, the lawyer Flavio Campagna – we will ask for an expert opinion to demonstrate that they don’t work”.
Meanwhile, next week the warrant interrogations will begin before the investigating judge Anna Liguori: on Monday it will be the turn of the commander of the Prato company Sergio Turini, followed by the entrepreneur Matteini Bresci. Moretti will instead be questioned by letter rogatory by the Turin judge.
