Carlos Alcaraz was eliminated prematurely from the ATP 500 tournament in Londonor the very famous one Queen’s which is staged on the grass pitches of the British capital. The Spanish champion was defeated by the host Jack Draper in two setsgreeting the event at the height of the round of 16.
The number 1 on the scoreboard bowed with the score of 7-6(3), 6-3 and from Monday 24 June he will also lose second place in the ATP rankings: the 21-year-old, who today lost for the first time in his career in one of the most prestigious tennis clubs in the world, he was in fact unable to defend the title he won twelve months ago (prelude to the apotheosis of Wimbledon) and will thus be overtaken by the Serbian Novak Djokovic in the international rankings.
Jack Draper put in a fantastic performance, fully deserving the success and the right to continue their journey at home (the American Tommy Paul awaits him in the quarter-finals). At the end of a first set played on serve and without break points, the world number 31 was good at breaking Alcaraz at the start of the tie-break and repeating himself shortly afterwards, scoring the 4-0 which secured the victory in the partial.
In the second half Draper took advantage of the first break point in the match, which materialized during the sixth game: he flew to 4-2, defended a counter-break ball and rose to 5-2, failing to score three match points in the next round, but then closes the score on his serve. On the statistics front: 8 aces from Draper and 7 from Alcaraz (3-1 double faults), 59% of firsts against 67%, 67% against 48% of points won on the second, 11-16 against non-errors forced.
