Free dental care for the fragile: Constitutional Court, green light for the law of the Puglia Region

Below is a statement released by Massimiliano Stellato, regional councilor of Puglia:

“Great satisfaction with the Council’s green light for the regional law which guarantees free dental care for the most vulnerable in public facilities.
From today, Puglia takes a step forward in terms of the rights and protection of the health of the weakest”.
This was declared by Massimiliano Stellato, regional councilor of Italia viva, signatory of the regional law which guarantees dental services to fragile patients in public facilities, after the rejection of the Government’s appeal by the Constitutional Court.
“With this law – declares Stellato – the range of rights of the most vulnerable categories, with psychomotor disabilities or behavioral disorders, is expanded, guaranteeing their care at the expense of the public service.
This is a real initiative to support citizens, in this case the weakest, which makes Puglia a vanguard in terms of social and healthcare assistance.
I am pleased that the Council recognized the approach of our regional law, which the national government had challenged. Today, due recognition is given to a public health issue that is too often forgotten. The law offers a concrete response to a significant portion of the population who too often renounces treatment, thus worsening underlying pathologies, and which ends up placing a further burden on the national health service.
This rule could make a difference for many vulnerable citizens.
After today, we hope that the Apulian law – which leads the way on the matter – can also be replicated in the other regions, in order to standardize the service throughout the national territory”.
