MODICA – The volcanic Chiara Francini and the very talented Alessandro Federico are the protagonists of “Coppia origine quasi gigantea”, a brilliant comedy written by Dario Fo and Franca Rame which closes this exciting season of prose at the Teatro Garibaldi in Modica. On Saturday 18 May at 9.00 pm and Sunday 19 May at 6.30 pm, directed by Alessandro Tedeschi, a tragicomic show will be staged which brings the male and female universe to the stage, and highlights the complexities of couple relationships and the differences related to the two sexes.

Marriage, fidelity and betrayal, “Coppia opening, almost wide open” is an important text which, with intelligence and humor, makes you laugh and reflect. The eclectic Chiara Francini, charismatic protagonist of the small and big screen, actress, presenter, comedian and writer, plays Antonia, the perfect heroine of all betrayed wives, and ironically recounts their “survival” within the home. In order to continue to be close to her husband and supporter of the “open couple”, played by Alessandro Federico, the protagonist decides to accept the unthinkable of her. But when Antonia also seems to be moving towards this choice, then her husband becomes jealous. “First rule: for the open pair to work, it must be open on only one side, that of the male! Because… if the open couple is open on both sides… there are drafts!”.

Between absurd situations, tense dialogues and brilliant monologues, in this classic Italian comedy from 1982 but still current, Franca Rame and Dario Fo have managed to describe in amusing but also dramatic tones, through intolerance to the concept of monogamy, the dynamics marital relations and the role of women. Production Pierfrancesco Pisani – Isabella Borettini for Infinito Teatro in collaboration with Argot Produzioni. “We are very happy to have on our stage the great Chiara Francini together with the excellent Alessandro Tedeschi – comment the president of the Fondazione Teatro Garibaldi Maria Monisteri and the superintendent Tonino Cannata – fantastic protagonists of this opera by Franca Rame and Dario Fo who through hilarious but even dramatic ones make us reflect on profound themes. It is a show full of nuances and meanings that will involve the audience from the first lines, and presents itself as the perfect conclusion to this extraordinary and highly attended season of prose.
