This is how Raffaella Mennoia began her long social message. The television author said she was the victim of a medical error: she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease from which, in reality, she did not suffer.

Years ago, after some physical ailments, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called polyneuropathy. This disease would gradually lead to the atrophy of some muscles and the diagnosis was very ruthless. I went through very dark times and spent two years of treatment at the Gemelli Hospital, where I received immunoglobulins and strong cortisone-based therapy.

She explained that she spent two years in which, every week, she was forced to go to day hospital. “Initially I decided not to talk about the disease because I understood that pain is something very personal and intimate. However, I realized that the people hospitalized with me they didn’t have the same symptoms I had, so I decided to investigate and go to the Mayo Clinic, a major hospital abroad. After approximately 15 days of hospitalization, I received a new diagnosis” she continued. Doctors abroad told her she did not suffer from the autoimmune disease they had previously diagnosed:

Asbestos at the RAI of Naples, the complaint from the family of Pasquale Russo, who died from mesothelioma

Fortunately, this diagnosis ruled out autoimmune disease. At the time I didn’t feel like reporting doctors who made errors in diagnosis, even if they caused me harm serious physical and psychological problems because of the two years of cortisone-based therapy.

He explained that he wanted to share his experience with his followers to raise awareness of the issue: “Today, however, I want to support all those who experience the disease Multiple Sclerosis and encourage scientific research to find new therapies and a definitive cure. I decided to share this very painful experience with you because I hope it can help people who may find themselves in the same situation“. Then he concluded: “This experience has made me particularly sensitive and I would like there to be greater commitment from everyone in supporting donations for research into this disease. It is a devastating disease and only those who suffer from it truly know what it means. I hope my testimony can be useful“.
