On Saturday 18 May 2024, on the occasion of the 46th International Museum Day promoted by ICOM – International Council of Museums, and Sunday 19 May it will be possible to access the following sites for free: Aymavilles Castle, Gamba Castle of Châtillon, Megalithic Area of ​​Aosta, MAR -Regional Archaeological Museum and regionally owned exhibition venues.

The theme of the 2024 edition, Museums for Education and Research – Museums for education and researchwas intended to highlight the central role of museums in providing a multidisciplinary educational experience, thus making a concrete contribution towards a more aware, sustainable and inclusive world.

In fact, as highlighted in the ICOM Kyoto 2019 Resolution, all museums play an important role in shaping and realizing sustainable futures through specific educational programs, exhibitions, cultural events and community awareness activities.

Furthermore, the initiatives organized specifically for this day intend to stimulate awareness of the fact that museums represent an important educational tool as well as a virtuous means of exchange, sharing and cultural enrichment.

Saturday 18 May at 10.30 am L’Megalithic area of ​​Aosta proposes the activity My megalithic museum: a workshop for children (5-11 years) dedicated to the discovery of the Megalithic Area and the traces it preserves. Children will understand the importance of the museum as a space for growth and, through a special treasure hunt, they will discover the stories of some finds that come from very distant times.

At 3pmThe MAR-Regional Archaeological Museum reserves a special visit entitled for young visitors (5-11 years). Feel like a museologist: children will discover the museum through the eyes of those who work there and of those who discovered and were able to tell the uniqueness of the preserved finds.

Always at MARat 3pm and at 17two accompanied visits dedicated to the discovery of the DESTINATION MARthe innovative participatory museum construction site that intends to involve the general public in the reorganization of the Regional Archaeological Museum in view of the 2050th anniversary celebrations by Augusta Prætoria in 2025. It should also be noted that the MAR-Regional Archaeological Museum, on the occasion of International Museum Day, joins the campaign I DON’T TAKE RISKS – Civil Protection and Museums hosting civil protection volunteers to raise awareness about the prevention and mitigation of anthropogenic and natural risk.
