“New energy from the coach, we exploited it”

LECCE – Compared to the timetable he had assigned himself at the start of the championship, Nikola Krstovic remained a little behind: he had indicated his seasonal goal, in fact, as 15 goals but, with three games left until the end of the championship, he has ‘active 7.

“For me there are nine – he said in the press conference referring to the other two scores which were classified as own goals –. I had set myself a more ambitious goal, but given the difficulties of the championship, all in all they can go well.”

He is right to feel satisfied, also because Krstovic’s first season in Italy was positive overall. With coach D’Aversa he scored five goals in 26 appearances, but with the arrival on the bench of coach Gotti and the adoption of the 4-4-2, the 24-year-old Montenegrin is clearly comforted by the presence and assistance of a teammate of the department: “The coach told me to feel free, to play as I know how. He gave us new energy, we made the most of it.”

One of the aspects in which Krstovic is demonstrating a rapid maturation process is his character. It is no coincidence that Gotti praised him at the end of the Cagliari match where there were moments of nervousness, with the rossoblu’s frequent wasting of time when they were in the lead: “I think I have also grown mentally – he acknowledged -. In Cagliari I was on a warning, I didn’t want to miss such an important match like the one against Udinese. I knew my chance to score would come, I focused on that. Before, I got nervous more often, even with my opponents. When I was young I had some problems with the referees, I got a lot of cards.”

After the press conference Krstovic joined his teammates for training at Via del Mare, which took place with open doors in the presence of around a hundred fans; Samson continued to work separately, while Gendrey returned to the group. At the end of the session, the Ultrà Lecce also arrived and took their places in the sector that had always been occupied and made their voice heard, accompanied by a large and historic banner.

One point is enough to have the comfort of mathematics, but already on Sunday, before even taking to the pitch (they will do so on Monday at 6.30 pm), Lecce could find themselves safe: it will depend on the result of their direct competitors.
