A terrible tragedy strikes the world of winter sports and speed skiing in particular. Jean Daniel Pession, a 27-year-old member of the World Cup team, lost his life in a tragic mountain accident that occurred above Champoluc (Ao). Together with Pession, his girlfriend Elisa Arlian, a cross-country ski instructor, also died. The two lost their lives while climbing the ridge that divides the east and north faces of Zerbion. They were spotted by the crew of the Guardia di Finanza helicopter equipped with equipment for detecting mobile phone signals and recovered, unfortunately lifeless, along the north face. The doctor declared his death. The searches started from the non-return report and required the use of three helicopters: SA1, SA3 (with a mixed Alpine Rescue/Fire Brigade crew) and Guardia di Finanza. The recognition operations are entrusted to the Financial Police of Cervinia.
