Pescia (Pistoia), 26 June 2024 – Last The intervention with which the Province of Pistoia seemed to have solved the problem of the subsidence of the road surface along the via Mammianese Nord, a few meters before the bridge for Saint Lawrencealong the way to Pietrabuona.
A solution, however, which evidently was not sufficient. Yesterday afternoon, just before 5pm, the entire stretch that had been affected by the intervention gave way, collapsing towards the bed of the Pescia river.
The firefighters of the Pescia command, the municipal civil protection, the municipal police, the mayor Riccardo Franchi, Luca Tridente, councilor for the Mountains, the president of the municipal council Maurizio Di Vita, resident of Medicina, immediately showed up on site. The spectacle they found themselves in front of was impressive.
A chasm opened along the edge of the road. “We had reported the depression that had occurred to the technicians of the Province – comments a Franchi with a devil of a hair – they had positioned new jerseys last week: it was clear that the road was giving way. We had asked, in recent months, for urgent intervention : they did what we could see, a temporary intervention that perhaps made things worse. We demand that the Province intervene immediately: the area must be made safe immediately, allowing the passage of cars as it is now small interventions, a major intervention is essential. We have activated the president Luca Marmo, urged the competent councilors, called all the technicians. Immediate interventions are needed to restore regular traffic”.
The risk to be avoided is that of the road being closed: upstream there are the ten castellas, at the beginning of the tourist season it would also be a disaster from an economic point of view. “We got to work immediately with the technicians available – explains the provincial councilor Lisa Amidei – let’s see if it is possible to intervene immediately in the utmost urgency. That point was monitored, today, certainly due to the rain, a new landslide occurred. Tomorrow we will have the answers from the technicians.” Representatives of some clubs were also on site Vallerianawho say they are ready to organize a demonstration on Saturday in Pistoia, at the provincial headquarters.
