WEDGE – The 78th Republic Day is celebrated on Sunday 2 June. The banner and the authorities of the Province will be present at the official ceremony scheduled in Cuneo in Piazza Galimberti which includes, after the flag-raising rite, the intervention of an armed picket of the Second Alpine Regiment of Cuneo and a joint representation of the corps armed and public assistance, the reading of the message of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella by the Prefect Fabrizia Triolo. The intervention of some representatives of the provincial student council is also expected, who will present some reflections on the topic of history and our Constitution. During the ceremony, diplomas of honor from the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, awarded by President Mattarella, will be awarded to twelve citizens of Cuneo. In the afternoon, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm it will be possible to access the gardens of the Prefecture, where the “Duccio Galimberti – Città di Cuneo” musical band will perform
In memory of 78 years ago, the President of the Province recalled how, by choosing the path of the Republic, the Italian people definitively shook off the tragic experience of the fascist dictatorship and thus embarked on a path of collective maturation in the name of freedom and democracy. The President also underlined what a complex but compelling path it was, which allowed the whole of Italy to grow in science, industry, arts and culture. Republic Day, he further said, was then a moment of celebration of the courage, passion and foresight of the women and men who laid the foundations of current history on 2 June 1946. A history – concluded the President – made of equality, rights and solidarity. A history that today we are called to celebrate with renewed community spirit and a strong sense of belonging, aware that over the years we have developed, thanks to the extraordinary republican experience, the educational elements necessary to better face the challenges that will come.
