05/09/2024 – “Thanks to the resources of the NextAppennino Programme, financed with the complementary National Plan for the 2009 and 2016 earthquakes, in the Marche the lines intended for the tourism sector have seen the allocation of over 170 million for almost 180 interventions. This is an extremely important contribution from the perspective of an activity, that of the commissioner’s structure, aware of the fact that the material reconstruction of the crater alone is not sufficient. The economic and social repair of our communities, which suffer from a long-term process of depopulation, is also necessary. The rich historical, artistic, cultural and naturistic heritage present in the Marche region is a formidable lever for attracting visitors, encouraging the activation of new services, and growing businesses in the sector and the entire territory”.

The Extraordinary Commissioner for the 2016 earthquake said this while participating in the event “Sustainable tourism and tourist experiences: the key role of tourist districts” in Ancona. The Commissioner then specified which measures, projects and funding of Next Appennino are relevant to the tourism sector in the region. This is sub-Measure b2.1 (dedicated to tourism, cultural and sports businesses) which finances 55 projects in the Marche region, to which 29 million euros have been allocated, mainly aimed at accommodation and catering services.

Sub-Measure B2.2, dedicated to the “Special partnership for the valorization of public heritage”, in the Marche region has a budget of 33.6 million euros, thanks to which it finances 12 projects for the recovery of cultural, environmental and public heritage for cultural, social innovation, tourist and recreational purposes. Finally, with the macro Measure A of NextAppennino (sub-Measures A2.1; A3.1; A3.3, dedicated to energy efficiency, the urban regeneration of open spaces and the safety of sports, recreational and ski lift facilities) 111 interventions financed for 115 million are planned in the region. “This heritage – added the Commissioner for the 2016 earthquake – is a ‘raw material’, a wealth, which can contribute significantly to reviving our internal areas and it is up to us to make the best use of it. I am also thinking of the valorisation of slow tourism through the routes present in the Marche, to which we have just allocated 30 million. Resources that will allow interventions to be carried out aimed at making the routes usable with a view to intermodality with public transport and cycling, for safety and maintenance, but also for investments in accommodation and refreshment services intended for walkers and pilgrims, on the eve of the Jubilee 2026 and the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis in 2026. These actions, together with numerous others, are part of a complex strategy aimed at promoting the sustainable development of the internal areas of the Marche, with the aim of encouraging people to stay. From this perspective, tourism represents a key sector, which we have the duty to enhance by guaranteeing the support and tools necessary to grow the sector and create development”.
