THE EAGLE. We celebrate in music the important milestone achieved by the “L’Aquila per la Vita” association, which celebrates 20 years of activity in the name of commitment to the community. The event, open to the public, will take place on Friday, at 6pm, in the auditorium of the Casella Conservatory and will be presented by the Rai journalist Andrea Fusco and from “ready to think” Mauro Pansini.
During the event, awards will be given to the protagonists of citizen and non-citizen solidarity, and subsequently there will be a concert by the Conservatory Wind Orchestra, made up of over 60 musicians directed by the maestro Giovanni Ieie, who will perform a captivating program, ranging from JR Garcia to Franco Battiato. At the end of the concert there will be a musical surprise with the performance of a soloist of absolute fame and prestige whose name has not been revealed for the moment. “L’Aquila per la Vita”, chaired by Giorgio Paravano, is a third sector body established in February 2004, with the aim of supporting the clinical and research activities of the Medical Oncology operational unit of L’Aquila, in particular with regard to supportive, palliative therapies and home care . Over the years it has carried out numerous projects, such as the activation of a home oncology unit with its operating centre, the financing of contracts for oncologists and scholarships for physiotherapists and psychologists, the financing of 2 researcher positions in the department of Applied Clinical Sciences and Biotechnology of the University of L’Aquila. And again, the financing of master’s courses, refresher courses and conferences for nurses and physiotherapists, the activation of the “Home Care Monitoring” telemedicine project, in collaboration with the Spee group, for the monitoring of patients at home and the management of emergencies , the computerization of the medical oncology operational unit, the purchase of 6 cars for home oncology consultations, the purchase of diagnostic equipment for home monitoring of patients and equipment for home care and devices for the prevention of side effects of chemotherapies and the purchase of televisions for hospital rooms. The activity of Aquila per la Vita was entirely financed by donations and the organization of events, without any contribution from public bodies. Since May 2005, a working group called “Supportive Care Task Force”, dedicated to palliative care, has been established within the Medical Oncology operational unit, composed of three oncologists, a psychologist, a physiotherapist, a dietician and consultant psychiatrists , infectious disease specialist, diabetologist, sonographer and neurophysiopathologist. From June 2005 to April 2009, 1,142 patients were followed for a total of 1,492 hospitalizations. The home oncology unit, made up of four oncologists, two neurologists, two psychologists, a physiotherapist and an ultrasound technician, was activated in August 2006. The second guesthouse dedicated to organ transplant patients will be inaugurated shortly.
