The Molise it is the first Region in which coverage has been completed FTTH foreseen by the Ultrawide Band (BUL) plan for the white areas. The announcement was made by Open Fiber during this morning’s press conference at the headquarters of the tourism department in Campobasso. The service is already available to citizens, companies and public administrations.
FTTH connection in 130 municipalities
The BUL plan, launched by Infratel in 2016, included three tenders for the creation of passive ultra-broadband infrastructure. All tenders were awarded to the concessionaire Open Fiber. According to the latest report on the progress of the works, penalties of over 54 million euros have been charged to the company (delays in the various operational phases).
More than 7 years after the tender was awarded, the BUL plan was finally completed in Molise. Open Fiber has created a FTTH network of approximately 1,700 km, covering the 130 Municipalities expected (81 in the province of Campobasso and 49 in the province of Isernia). The new infrastructure, which can reach 10 Gbps, brings fiber optics to over 133,000 homes and 688 Public Administration offices.
In addition to that envisaged by the BUL plan for small villages and more isolated municipalities, Open Fiber has also created a proprietary FTTH network in Campobasso, Isernia and Termoli, reaching approximately 47,000 homes with an investment of over 8.3 million euros.
