INTERVIEW WITH LAURENT VIERIN (Federalism&Autonomies – Valledaostaglocal.it

In the exclusive interview, Laurent Vierin exposes his criticism of the UV without filters, denouncing the political hypocrisy regarding the European Elections and the situation of the autonomist “Réunion” in Valle d’Aosta. With frankness and determination, Vierin offers a penetrating look at the lack of will to materialize and the return to the logic of “open doors to Renault”, questioning the future of autonomist politics in the region.

Laurent Vierin, you recently expressed criticism towards the UV’s decision not to present candidates in the European Elections. Could you explain to us what prompted you to make these statements?

“My criticism stems from the observation that the UV’s decision not to nominate anyone for the European elections was presented as a reaction to my candidacy proposal, which frankly I find unlikely to be credible. The decision not to nominate candidates came well before the my proposal, so it is clear that there are other reasons behind this choice.”

Can you elaborate on your involvement and intentions regarding the European Elections?

“My candidacy proposal was put forward by Pays d’Aoste Souverain, with the support of “Orgueil Valdôtain”, as part of the discussion within the “Réunification”. It was an attempt to stimulate debate and show that there was still an ideal will to fight within the autonomist sphere. Unfortunately, this attempt could not materialize due to lack of support and interference against us.”

You mentioned “Réunification”. What is your opinion on the current situation of this movement?

I believe that the ‘Réunification’ has lost its will to materialize. The European Elections have shown that there has been no real desire to bring together the different sensitivities within the autonomist movement. It is clear that the “Réunion” has been reduced to a simple return to the fold, with the logic of “open doors to Renault”, as ironically underlined by the president of the UV. This is very disappointing for those like me who believe in the battles brought forward over the years.”

What do you think of the future of autonomist politics in Valle d’Aosta?

I think that a renewal and reconstruction of the autonomist movement is necessary. We cannot afford to simply accept a return to the fold without doing anything to change the situation. We must work together to build a new “Union”, respectful of different sensitivities and with a clear project of renewal. I hope that anyone who regrets this situation can find the will to contribute to this process of change.”

Thank you so much for your frankness, Laurent. We hope that your words can stimulate reflection on the current situation of autonomist politics in Valle d’Aosta.

“Thank you for the opportunity to express myself. I truly hope we can see some positive changes in the near future.”
