Piazza di Siena, the agreement signed between MASAF and FISE. “This way we will give racehorses a second career”

Exactly two years ago, on 25 May 2022, the English thoroughbred Frabematt took to the track for her last race, the Premio Costa dei Trabocchi di Tagliacozzo. Born five years ago and trained by Claudia Vicari, two years later Frabematt was the protagonist of an ideal handover, between the jockey Manuel Porcu and the polo player Patricio Rattagan, which symbolized the start of a new project. In the Oval which hosts the CSIO in Piazza di Siena, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (MASAF) and the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation (FISE) have signed an agreement for the recovery of horses at the end of their career and for retraining for equestrian sports.

The horse, ridden by Manuel Porcu (a jockey who won 350 races in his career), after a lap of the track was then entrusted to the hands of Patricio Rattagan, creator and protagonist of the Italia Polo Challenge (arena polo circuit underway at the Galoppatoio in Villa Borghese), as well as an expert in the recovery and retraining of thoroughbred horses. From the horse racing saddle to the polo saddle: it is from Piazza di Siena that Frabematt’s second life begins, and the same will happen with many other horses involved in the project.

We have made an extremely important agreement – the words of the Undersecretary of MASAF, Patrizio Giacomo La Pietra -, because we are trying to give the animal a perspective by always looking at its well-being, giving it the possibility of being used in sporting, therapeutic and social activities. These are the three pillars on which we are working.” “Thanks to the MASAF staff, to the Undersecretary Patrizio La Pietra, to the engineer Remo Chiodi and to all those who made this agreement possible – added the president of FISE, Marco Di Paola -. We have collaborated on this important project which aims to give a second life to horse racing horses, and which can quickly be converted to Olympic sports within our Federal Equestrian Center in Pratoni del Vivaro. In this way, the horses will also be able to bring many smiles to the young people of the federal schools to whom they will be assigned after preparation, also for a therapeutic activity of which horses know to be extraordinary protagonists“.
