From May 1st the city of Velletri began celebrations for the Feast of the Madonna delle Grazie. After the preparatory Triduum of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, on the morning of Saturday the 4th there was the solemn exposition of the image of the Madonna and the Holy Mass, presided over by the Bishop His Excellency Monsignor Stefano Russo, at the Cathedral of San Clemente.
In the evening there was the solemn Procession of the Candles in honor of the Madonna, in its 411th edition, which started from Piazza Caduti sul Lavoro and ended with the Reposition of the Holy Image at the same Cathedral. The Mayor of Velletri, Ascanio Cascella, several members of the City Council and Council, as well as the Confraternity of the Madonna delle Grazie Velletri and many citizens took part in the Procession.
“The Marian month began, as usual, with the celebrations for the Madonna delle Grazie. This is an important year as the city approaches the title of Civitas Mariae. Sunday 12 May there will also be the arrival of the Madonna of Fatima, at the Palabandinelli. A significant event, given our ancient tradition of Marian worship, not only as an act of faith, but as a widespread feeling of our culture and tradition.” – Commented by the Mayor, Ascanio Cascella.
The traditional Goods Fair and the Solemn Pontifical presided over by His Excellency Cardinal Francis Arinze are scheduled for Sunday.
Many children from local schools also participated in the candle procession.
