Sips of Culture: appointment at the Scacciadivoli Winery

The Le Donne del Vino Umbria association is meeting for the next 5 May 2024 at the Scacciadiavoli winery in Montefalco for the third appointment of Sips of Culture.

The “Sips of Culture” event is a cultural initiative of the Women of Wine – Umbria which celebrates the link between the Umbria of wine and art. Le Donne del Vino – Umbria, together with their partner Liù Pambuffetti from Cantina Scacciadiavoli, will host the Australian-Italian artist Virginia Ryan, who will be interviewed by Diana Niglio, food writer and sommelier, also a member of Le Donne del Vino.

The scheduled meeting, entitled “From Umbria to Kashmir”, will focus on the experiences and artistic inspirations of Virginia Ryan, offering unique insights into her work. In particular, the meeting focused on her latest 2-month experience in India, in an artist residency that hosted over 100 artists from all over the world.

An aperitif will follow, which will offer the opportunity for participants to socialize, ask the artist questions on the topics covered and admire the works on display up close.

The research of the artist Virginia Ryan focuses on the themes of migration, identity-memory, loss and transformation. The artist prefers “lived” materials and interacts with the artistic communities belonging to the places in which she works, through the use of a visual language of evident Western origin and the use of commonly used objects.

Born in Australia, an Italian citizen, she graduated from the National School of Arts Australia, Masters in art therapy at the University of Edinburgh and in Gestalt in Perugia.

A transnational artist, he has lived and worked for the last thirty years in Egypt, Brazil and Scotland, the former Yugoslavia, Ghana and the Ivory Coast while maintaining, since 1995, a studio in Umbria. She is an academic of merit from the Pietro Vannucci Academy of Perugia.
