The Bolognese summer is the one with the most free entry events in Italy. The data emerges from the presentation of the new Bologna Estate billboard driven by the claim ‘Cultura continua’, starting on 17 May from the historic center to the Apennines, between major events and widespread local proposals. A detail that matters when you spend the hot season in the city and find yourself faced with 362 projects (192 under the Two Towers and 170 in the metropolitan area) which provide many opportunities for music, theatre, cinema, literature, art, meetings and sports: to each their own event, one could say depending on one’s budget – if the ticket for Keanu Reeves’ Dogstar at the Bonsai Festival at the Caserme Rosse park on 29 June costs around 40 euros, Mick Harvey ex Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds on June 13 at Frida in the park with a string quartet is free, for example. For everyone there is the possibility of finding something to do in an agenda that shows the work of the many cultural operators in the shadow of the Two Towers. A summer supported until September 29th by the Municipality with 1,300,000 euros (of which 500 thousand from the Ministry of Culture) and a program where not all entities receive contributions and those who do not have them can use public land for free, facilities and be included in communication which also passes through a very rich site like www.bolognaestate.it, which is continuously updated.
New places new ideas. A particular value is attributed to the places, to all the ‘new entries’ of the territory, such as the monumental wing of the Rizzoli Institute (former Olivetan convent of San Michele in Bosco) and the adjacent park, where ‘Vista Paradox’ will glide , a project by Archivio Zeta, or the new garden of the Acer Popolarissime houses in Porto-Zaragoza with the playground that hosts the traveling cinema ‘Si gira!’, the free dance workshops from 22 May to dance hip hop with Aka del Tpo or the tango with Olitango. The Bologna Portici Festival from 4 to 9 June will present a ‘cultural Zamboni’ with high sociality in the university area involving the Boat Train and the arcades between Piazza della Pace and the Certosa where a temporary dance village will be created with the proposals of Dancin’Bo. ‘Istantanea Urbana’ is then born among the towers of the Fair, a contemporary dance performance at sunset. Tropical Balera del Locomotiv is also blooming for the first year at the Giardino Penazzi in via della Torretta.
The neighborhood houses. Mismaonda brings ‘Perfect days, there goes the time that goes’: five meetings in the spaces of the Quartieri from 4 to 18 July with Lella Costa, Franco Arminio, Arianna P. Safonov, Dario Vergassola, Pippo and Andrea Santonastaso. ‘Moonlight Scipione’ is at the Casa di Quartiere Scipione dal Ferro, Teatrino a due inch follows 13 stages for a traveling festival of puppet theater for families and children, Fantateatro brings the show Oltre i Confini to the Casa di Quartiere and the Lucchini company brings the Mo soppa review that spectacuel to enhance dialect theatre.
The Festivals. At the Caserme Rosse park Kid Yugi and Massimo Pericolo for Oltre Festival; Salmo + Noyz Narcos, Cat Power, Take That, Mogwai, Mahmood, Nick Mason, Kool and the Gang for Sequoie Music Park; Willie Peyote, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dogstar, Cosmo for Bonsai. Botanique hosts, among others, Arab Strap, Tangerine Dream, Cranes, King Hanna; Express Festival between Locomotiv and Teatro Duse also offers I Hate My Village, Alfa Mist, Irreversible Entanglements. Dumbo Summertime, at the former Ravone airport, hosts the Gemini festival in May with Acid Arab, Christian Lo¨ffler, Dirty Channels.
