Almost five months after the murder of Mauro Di Giacomo, killed under his home in Bari on 18 December, this morning at dawn the police of the Apulian city arrested a man from Canosa Di Puglia.
The investigation into the murder of the physiotherapist Mauro Di Giacomo, committed last December 18th in the Poggiofranco district of Bari, have finally reached a turning point. Almost five months after the crime, this morning at dawn the police of the Apulian city arrested a man from Canosa Di Puglia; the provision was issued by the Judge for preliminary investigations, at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office. The subject is held responsible for planning and carrying out the murder.
Mauro Di Giacomo, 63 years old, was killed in via Tauro, in Bari, while he was returning home with the shopping. A hooded killer, who had been waiting for him for a few minutes: he approached him and after insulting him, he beat him and finally he fired seven shots at him, at least three of which hit. As if that wasn’t enough, the killer attacked the now lifeless physiotherapist, hitting him with the butt of the gun. Then, aboard the car in which he had arrived in Via Tauro, the killer disappeared, disappearing from radar for months. Although the agents of the Bari flying squad, coordinated by prosecutor Matteo Soave, immediately set out on his trail, the resolution of the crime immediately proved to be very complicated.
The man was hooded – eyewitnesses witnessed the attack, but were unable to provide useful elements to identify him – and his car was certainly immortalized by the neighborhood surveillance cameras, but probably not clearly enough to allow its identification. The weapon used to commit the crime was a 7.65 caliber pistol. The investigators immediately ruled out the possibility of organized crime as the motive for the murder, focusing on the trail of personal revenge and arriving at the possible solution to the mystery only in the last few days.
