Villa Rosa south, beach nourishment works entrusted – Teramo

MARTINSICURO. The Truentino municipality has entrusted the works for the nourishment of the south Villa Rosa beach to a company from the Marche region. As has been the case for many years, the beach in the extreme south of the hamlet is subjected to a strong erosive phenomenon, which almost makes the sand disappear. For this reason, soft sand nourishment is prepared annually to save the bathing season for tourist operators in the area. While waiting for the construction of the parallel cliffs, which do not exist in the area, the sand will be repositioned for approximately 470 linear meters of the southern area of ​​the hamlet. Approximately two thousand cubic meters of sand will be spread on the beach, recovered by dredging the town’s landing place, piled up in the marina and subjected to the necessary analyzes for use. The sand will be transported to Villa Rosa and then spread on the beach: the expected cost for this work is approximately 32 thousand euros.
The “Villa Rosa Sud-Alba Adriatica Autonomous Anti-Erosion Movement” has doubts about the use of sand taken from the Martinsicuro landing place for nourishment and does not consider it suitable. «In Villa Rosa south», says the committee made up of local tourist operators, «among the groynes whose removal we have always asked for, the 18th nourishment will be carried out to give a little respite to this area tormented by coastal erosion from Always. The sand used is that dredged from the Martinsicuro marina area. Our movement invites state concessionaires to be very careful when using this sand, as it appears to us to be of very poor quality and mixed with pebbles and crushed stone in industrial quantities, as well as being completely different in grain size from the current one. This would mean that, if spread on the shoreline, it would last very little, until the first storm. Having said that, the beach operators will decide whether to use it. We ask for the immediate start of the work on positioning the parallel cliffs together with the removal of the groynes to solve a problem that has been creating serious problems for beach operators for years.”
