The mayor of Messina Federico Basile welcomed Damiano Sciuto and Michele Maijnelli at Palazzo Zanca this afternoon, the two champions from Messina who distinguished themselves at the Italian checkers world championship in Rome. Sciuto took first place, while Maijnelli consolidated second place, highlighting Messina’s dominance in the tournament.
Basile, together with the Sports Councilor Massimo Finocchiaro and the general director of the Municipality Salvo Puccio, expressed congratulations on the goal achieved. The mayor underlined: “An award that rewards commitment, determination and passion in practicing a sporting discipline. I express admiration on behalf of myself, the municipal administration and the entire citizenry for the brilliant success that has contributed to raising the name of Messina.”
Basile also highlighted the importance of sporting activity for the psycho-physical development of young people, reiterating the administration’s commitment to promoting youth training in sport, encouraging inclusion and social aggregation.
