North Syracuse community honors fallen Officer Michael Hoosock at vigil

NORTH SYRACUSE, NY — A celebration of life honoring fallen Onondaga County Lt. Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Hoosock took place at the Saint Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse.

Hundreds made their way into the church, calling the service beautiful and very moving.

As members of the church walked out, they were filled with many tearful eyes and sad faces, holding candles in their hands as they honored the life of Hoosock.

Members of the congregation at Saint Rose, like Joseph Celentano, reminisced over their memories of Hoosock.

I had the honor of teaching Michael at Bishop Grimes High School. He was a wonderful student and a wonderful young man, and someone that quite honestly I was so impressed with how he grew up.

Sheila Burdick says she is feeling the loss of Hoosock.

My hearts go out to all the families, even the perpetrators, especially the police officers’ families. Their daughter just made first communion Friday, and that’s the saddest thing that those three children have lost their father.

The church was filled to capacity for the service. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon was one of those in attendance.

The church is also setting up a Catholic Education Fund for the Hoosocks.
