TRENTO – It was held today, April 17, in the Court of Appeal in The first hearing for the conversion of Chico Forti’s US sentence was held in Trento. This is a technical step, held behind closed doors, in view of the return to Italy of the 65-year-old from Trentino, sentenced to life imprisonment in Florida for the murder of Dale Pike, which occurred on 15 February 1998.
The Court of Appeal received the US conviction from the Ministry of Justice, which must be converted according to Italian law and sent to the United States. The authorization for Forti’s transfer to Italy was announced by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, on March 2, after the meeting in Washington with the US President, Joe Biden.
Forti, who has always maintained his innocence, has been in prison in Florida for 24 years.
