Seminar on electrocardiography in Reggio Calabria

On 26 April 2024 at the registered office of Rotary Clubs And Rotaract Of Reggio Calabria the “seminar on basic electrocardiography and in acute patients” was held. The seminar embraces the Calabria Rotaract District project UNCORACK – uncover heart attack for rotaract – which promotes the diffusion of electrocardiographs at medical guard stations and general practitioners’ clinics. Precisely through this project, the Clubs of the Upper Calabria area donated an electrocardiograph to the Health Center of the University of Calabria located in Rende, and subsequently the Rotaract Club of Strongoli to the medical guard of Strongoli, to complete their equipment. The clubs of Reggio Calabria will in fact donate two electrocardiographs to the ASP of Reggio Calabria in the next few months.

The presidents of the two clubs opened the seminar: Fabrizio Nucera and Domenico Ripepi. The project was presented by Cardiologist Rodolfo Caminiti, in his role as Rotaract Secretary of District 2102 for the current year. Two figures of noteworthy importance, and of Reggina origin, were presented by the Professor and interventional cardiologist at the Annunziata Hospital in Cosenza – UNICAL, Alberto Polimeni, and the Doctor Pasquale Crea, cardiologist electrophysiologist at the cardiology of the University Hospital of Messina.

The objective was to provide basic and simple knowledge for a quick and correct interpretation of the electrocardiogram, in order to identify possible anomalies early. But also, addressing lay people, to provide simple management and therefore behavioral instructions to recognize the early signs of acute ischemic heart disease, and therefore to be alarmed about the need to turn to local centers to receive help, the hospital or the guard medical.

The district secretary Caminiti also properly underlined the importance of the UNCORACK project, which aims to strengthen the diagnostic means at local facilities, such as medical guards, which are often first aid points for patients with suspected cardiac insult. The need was therefore underlined to supply the territory with the necessary material, in the main first aid points, to make a public health service up to the demands, often avoiding congesting the “emergency room” unnecessarily.

The two Clubs say they are satisfied with the cooperation in this area, with the desire to meet again to develop new projects whose aim will always be to try to change the life of the Reggio community for the better.
