The third round of the world championship has turned into a dream weekend for Aprilia and Maverick Viñales. The Spaniard managed to win both the Sprint Race on Saturday and the long race on Sunday, becoming the first pilot of the modern era to have won at least one race with 3 different manufacturers. Before the GP of the Americas, Maverick Viñales had achieved a total of 9 victories in the premier class: one with Suzuki and eight with Yamaha, all coming between 2016 and 2021. A victory that also smacks of redemption
For Viñales this victory also represented a personal redemption. Many in recent years have argued that the Spaniard would never be able to return to high levels given his difficult adaptation to the bike and the results that they struggled to arrive. Now that Viñales can ride the bike the way he wants, the tune seems to have changed: “In the past I didn’t have the weapon that I have now, especially when it comes to overtakes. Before, I struggled to stay close to the other riders.
