A minute of silence in the city council in Legnano to remember the mayor of Castellanza Mirella Ceriniwho passed away on Thursday 25 April with 51 years to go, after the celebrations for the 79th anniversary of the Liberation, struck by a fatal illness when she still had the tricolor sash on.
«Last April 25th, at the end of the official celebrations in her municipality, the mayor Mirella Cerini of Castellanza passed away – the memory of the mayor Lorenzo Radice -. We have had many exchanges with Mirella in these years of administration because there are many matches that bind our communities and it was truly a bolt from the blue. I ask for a minute of silence in memory of a mayor who gave so much to his community».
Meanwhile, Castellanza prepares to say goodbye to Mirella Cerini. The funeral will be celebrated on Thursday 2 May at 11am in the church of San Giulio: the funeral ceremony will also be broadcast on the big screen of the Cinema Teatro in via Dante given the large influx of people expected. On the day of the funeral the municipal administration proclaimed city mourning and in the morning the municipal offices will remain closed.
Tomorrow, On Wednesday 1st May, the funeral chapel will be set up in the Sala Colonne of the town hall from 9am to 6pm. The rosary will be recited in the town hall courtyard in the evening, at 8.45pm, or in the church of San Giulio in case of rain. Mirella Cerini’s family and the municipal administration have expressed the desire that any donations will be donated to the Castellanza volunteer associations“the beating heart of the city”, rather than for floral tributes.
